The Best Iron Water Filters in Indiana

Since most of today’s water pollution has no scent or taste, most people who ingest dangerous chemicals do not even know it, even after they become sick. It is estimated that 19.5 million Americans become ill each year from drinking water contaminated with bacteria, parasites, or viruses, according to a study that was published last year in the scientific journal of Reviews of Environmental Contamination and Toxicology.

The New York Times interviewed more than 250 state and federal regulators, water-system managers, environmental advocates and scientists. The research shows that an estimated 1 in 10 Americans have been exposed to drinking water that contains dangerous chemicals or does not meet federal guidelines. These exposures include carcinogens in tap water of major cities and unsafe chemicals in drinking water wells. Wells, are not typically regulated by the Safe Drinking Water Act, and are more likely to contain contaminants than municipal water systems.

Interesting Information Regarding drinking water in Indiana:

Tap water in parts of the Farm Belt, including cities in Illinois, Kansas, Missouri and Indiana, contain pesticides at concentrations that some scientists have linked to birth defects and fertility problems. A cancer causing chemical called Chromium has been found in Northwest Indiana drinking water. Some warn about this dangerous chemical and are blaming Northwest Indiana's steel mills, which discharge thousands of pounds of Chromium into Lake Michigan, the source of drinking water for most of the area's residents. A report by the Environmental Working Group showed levels of chromium in tap water in Lake County averaged 16 to 41 times what authorities suggest is a safe level for Chromium.
