Some major threats to the city’s water supply have included polluted runoff from urban, suburban, and agricultural areas, new development (which can cause sedimentation and erosion) and more than 1,400 identified potential point source polluters, including hundreds of fuel and hazardous waste facilities and more than 100 large industries using hazardous chemicals.
